Can anyone tell me what type of plastic was used as protective runners on the back carpet under the front seat rear legs?

You could buy a carpet set from a mob in Victoria that was run by David Clark - I think it was called All Car Carpets - not sure if they are still in business. They did have a very good repo for the plastic inserts. I doubt he would sell them separatly.
I am pretty sure they used HDPE plastic for them. This gear is used extensively for lining dams, so generally big rolls. Available in different thicknesses. You may be able to score an offcut.

Not sure what the plastic is, but can be bought on eBay.

Thank you to you both. I had been looking at PPSU or polycarbonate but was never happy with the ability to withstand sliding motion and pressure. High density PU makes a lot of sense. I have seen it used in cattle crushes to prevent bruising. I have ordered the kit from Queensland - saves searching for the studs and washers.

These strips have some complications as to size and placement. From 1961, the protection strips 14A9083/HYA805 are 2 ply high density polyethylene 1/16” thick and fixed by rivets BRP1106. The strips are 1 5/8” wide and are 6.75” long. In early 1963, they were relocated rearwards with the distance from the front edge of the rear mat to the strip increased from 4 3/8” to 5 3/8”. In 1969, the protection strips were lengthened to 8.75” and have part no HYA3196. Not sure how long the ones are on Ebay but it seems you need the short ones 6.75” for a MKI Cooper S and the longer ones 8.75” for a MKII.

And I am pretty sure the originals have rounded corners.

The information is priceless Thank you so much. It proves the value of this forum. To be able to post an obscure question and probably one that most never think about and get these answers is beyond belief. We need to treasure and preserve the Values the Forum stands for.
