I was wondering how much a conversion from drums to discs would be worth and how much work would be involved in doing it. And whether it would be able to be done by someone without a huge amount of experience on converting?

If you don't have a $1000 or know what a ratchet is, just service your drums. That about sums it up. What size wheels are on your car? |

I wouldn't mess with 7" Cooper ones, they barely stop 10" wheels... Save your $$ for some Late Mini 8.4s or Metro turbo 4 pots, or fit a set of Honda Civic 9.1" ones..

Well, go the 8.4's. They are cheaper than 7.5s and apparently 7's won't stop better than drums anyway. For somewhere under $750 I got some used 8.4's, new rotors and new pads. I'm yet to clean them up and fit them, so can't help you further there. The other option is honda discs or similar. They could work out cheapest, but I don't know that much about what's involved there either. |

Go talk to Tony at mini sport in SA or Steve at Brixworks and see what they have and what they can do you you..

Tony = new stuff = ouch = fark where did my credit card go. Steve = second hand (who needs new) = just as good = already built (not a kit) = cheaper = dinner on the table the same night. Oh yeah... Steve's got 20 frontcuts coming in next week; theres bound to be a set of discs there for ya

Hmm honda civic sound interesting and I guess the would be easier to get parts for at a later date I think I may go that way but I guess that sort of conversion will cost more |

Nooooo please don't do Hondas. Bluntly put, they are dodgy. You'll be spending about the same on the Rover 8.4"s as you will on the Hondas once you get them mounted right (is there such a thing), engineered, new bits, etc. Not worth it when the Mini one is GUARANTEED to fit on. |

If you fit Honda Civics they will cost you less than $500 probably. OTOH you `should' get them engineered. No idea what that costs, although people in Qld and Tas have done this.
Many others on here are running them regardless and are happy to do so. <edit> willy, I've gotta say, the Hondas outstop 8.4s easily.

Ok so hondas are better now it is so confusing sigh all i need is a good set of brakes that are better than my drums and won't fade as bad as the drums do |

Doc, for what she's after, the 8.4"s will be better suited. SHE is a woman, so probably wouldn't like the extra running around getting the mounting plates made up, and then engineering, so minigirl_65, go for the 8.4"s. From a mini. Not a Honda.

C'mon some "men" on this forum go to their mechanic to adjust the single adjusting screw on their drums, so no need to put women down as unable to "run around" |
