Have people stopped using the anti-squeal shims on mini 7.5 inch disc brake pads?
They aren't listed by any of the obvious outlets, even with brake pad sets but are still sold for 8.4 inch setups.
I need to replace at least one corroded shim but if they don't make any difference, I can stop worrying about them.

I search on the Cooper S shim part number 3628-410 (qty 4) doesn't give any hits.

A simple explanation of their purpose and a product to use in their place is here. Probably nothing knew but always worthwhile to get other opinions.

I see Repco have a discount on brake grease.

I bought some "Green Stuff" pads and they came with a stick on anti-noise shim. I haven't used any other pads to know if they come with it too

Thanks winabbey and timmy.

Was thinking that if squealing becomes an issue without shims I will try grease - my son uses copper antiseize on his cars but we think the small size of mini brake pads might make them less likely to squeal than modern high performance car brakes with large surface areas compared to minis, which allows more movement that causes brake noises and needs solutions.

I have thought the softer compounds on pads like 'Green Stuff" might allow them to bed in quickly and be less likely make noises. Has timmy run the Green Stuff pads without the stick-on coating?

Maybe noisy brake pads aren't a problem with minis, with or without shims, so it has not become an issue.

I've used a couple of sets of 7-1/2" greenstuffs so far, no shims, no stickon, no noises.
