The YKG2S2 that I'm working on still has the original coil stamped 05-67. Should I keep this on the car or as a souvenir and use a modern coil i.e. epoxy filled?

I’d check the resistance in the primary and secondary circuits, if those are ok and the engine runs fine I’d be ok with using the old one. Having a spare one in the boot for long trips probably isn’t a bad idea

The primary should be about 3 ohms on a Mk1

The primary resistance should be around 3 ohms on your coil.
I would get a new modern coil and keep the old one for posterity.

I agree, oil filled last for life of the car really, epoxy filled are crap.
Pertronix and Bosch both have or had problems. Look at the short life of many modern coil packs for example. Epoxy filled.....
I like NGK oil filled coils. Or any other oil filled one really.
