Has anyone had Locsed make a mini towbar recently? They seem to have changed owners a few years ago so are now named custom towbars and have a location in Brisbane. I've tried emailing them but it seems that goes to Brisbane and they seem to have no idea. Their first response was to send me to Speedy Towbars :D . Even though they supposedly custom make towbars it has taken a few emails before they have said that I can bring the mini in so that they can see if they can make one. I'll probably just phone the original VIC location that was Locsed to see what they say but if anyone knows first it would be great.

I believe Wynnum towbars used to do them too but they also said they don't do them.

Is there somewhere else?

I'm looking for one to two sedan ones and eventually a van one.

I've got a sedan chrome tow bar that I won't use. Pick up Ellen Grove, Brisbane

Not sure you will get anyone to fabricate a new towbar for a Mini given the current requirements for new towbars. Buying second hand may be the best option, or make your own if your adventurous.

Did they make it difficult? What are the requirements? I assumed there would be some requirements but I didn't think it would stop companies like this.

If I make one I'll probably make it way heavier than it needs to be and I'll still worry about it.

Are the ones available in the UK an option?

I’ve had a quick look, but if the car is pre-adr does it need an adr approved towbar? Or only if it’s newly fitted?

If these are the ones you are thinking of then I don't think they'll comply to current Australian standards. Not sure what the requirements were in the 70s but I haven't seen a towball like that here. I don't expect to have any issues but if that towball design isn't legal then it would be obvious to anyone looking.

Did proper ones ever have removeable tongues?

I've found a sedan one but to me it looks like someone has cut off the tongue and then made a new one bolt on out of wider steel.

This is the BMC approved accessory. Looks like it has a fixed tongue (so it can rip a piece out of the shin of anyone who comes too close).

I'm pretty sure it should be one piece but isn't that picture of one for another car?

That's exactly what I was expecting.

This is the one I was looking at which I believe is dodgy. There is no reinforcement and the tongue unbolts. The tongue is made out of wider steel. I immediately decided not to buy it.

I suspect your one is something that someone has modified from another car. I believe the brackets would be welded on and there wouldn't be the twisted steel. Could be wrong though.
