Should the fuel tank strap on a 1973 Australian Clubman GT look like this.

It's almost like the single strap is too short to bolt flush with the boot floor. I'm thinking the gap to the floor should be less.

The tank is sitting on a thin layer of felt and the single strap has cork on the inside to protect the tank which I understand is correct.

Are the photo's showing the correct factory finish as the left and right hand tanks appear to be the same.

Any information would be much appreciated.

The gap would keep a bit of spring tension on the strap and allow a bit of adjustment over time.

Earlier cars had a gap halfway up the tank and used 2 piece straps.

I think the change point was in the low YG2S8 1300s so your car should have the 1 piece straps.

Here is a pic of the 2 styles

Thanks gotgreen1969 for the photo's and information.
The cooper s or early GT looked to have a better system.
I was interested to see how much gap other GT'S had after adjustment.
