Post subject: | *BANG, grind grind grind grind* what the hell? |
Hi everyone i was driving home from dropping off a friend tonight and i hear are bang then a grinding noise, "what the flaming hell was that" i pull over and look under the front, thinking it might be my dodgy hand made alternator mount has given way but no that wasnt it, the source was coz my exhaust had broken both the "middle" and rear mounts and was grinding along the road, luckily i had some heavy gauge wire leftover from my sub to tie it up until i got home, but then i go to start the car and .............................................................nothing, it was turning over fine so i thought it must have been a fuel problem, maybe the exhaust had had knocked the fuel pump some how so i wiggled it and then went up front and wiggled the fuel filter, got back in and vrooooom, off we went. I got home and used an aussie aerial (coat hanger) to hold up my exhaust until the weekend (i used two separate loops just to be safer) and then changed to investigating the fuel problem. I started with the pump, all seemed fine, wires connect still, so up the front i went and looked at the filter, and by torch light i couldnt see any fuel in it so im thinking it was the cause of my grief. I changed it over with a spare i have had under the front seat for nearly a year and she started up and filled the filter straight away, YAY. Before i threw the old filter out i thought id have a look at it and i was shocked to what came out, it was the dirtiest, crapped filled fuel i have ever seen, no wonder it wouldnt run, Now i dont know whether ive put dodgy, last of the bowser fuel in or if its because i didnt changed the filter after the 6 month of non engine running whiilst i did the painting, but thats my eventful night!!! see ya trent |

is there anyone who's owned a mini that hasn't had their exhaust either fly off, or drop to the ground, or even a combination of both? has happened in every mini we've had in our family. our sunshine spat its tailpipe at a car that was tailgating it and took a 6" strip of paint off his bonnet. i would have loved to have seen the look on the dude's face. |

The zorst on my clubby used to come off where it joined the headers (speed bumps dont help), then swing around and drag behind the car supported by only the rear mount ![]() ![]() Got rid of the clamp & welded it to the headers ![]() |

Never lost a zorst, but.. Years ago in the hottie 850 I was driving home from Oran Park, got this clunk in the front somewhere. Stopped and looked under bonnet, saw nothing. Oh well it didn't get any worse so I sat on 100KMH (was 60MPH then) and kept going. 3 miles or so later and BANG!.... clunk.... scrape.."WTF was that...!" as the LF wheel shot past and over a fence and went 100 yards or so into a paddock. It wore the bottom balljoint on the road so much there was only 3mm of nut left on. Some f*@&%$^ had loosened the wheelnuts in the carpark... ![]() Drove it home after robbing a nut off each of the other wheels. Arseholes... ![]() |

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE, well i drove my mini out to northern mini spares today to get some new mounts and when i told them that i had broken both mounts they didnt believe me, so i took them outside and made them lie down and look, they believed me after that!! "Wow, i havent seen that before. The mount 1/2 way up the car will need to be re-welded" was the reply, so with some re-arranging of cars, a few minutes later my mini was up on the hoist and the mechanics were feverishly working away to get it fixed, whilst me and the girlfriend wandered about the store part, some damn nice gear in there, including a full metro turbo setup!! Anyways after about 1/2 an hour my car was ready, "usually the engine mounts being worn is the reason why exhaust mounts break but yours are a nearly brand new so we are not sure why they broke, but as its one of our engines, there will be no charge for the repairs" was what i was told as i saw my mini pulling out of the garage. I wasnt quite sure if i heard him right, no charge??? but i did, and i jumped in and drove off. what i expected to be a reasonably costly repair, ended up costing me zipp!! Twas a great day, thanks northern mini spares!! Oh yeah, a similar thing happened to me doc a few years in my datsun, but it wasnt thieves making off with my wheel nuts, but me not tightening them up enough after seeing if my wheels would fit my mates car, a mistake i will never make again!!!! |
