ok, here goes, when i take off slowly in my mini it is really rough, when i put the accelerator pedal in and take the clutch out its ok but then if i want to slowly accelerate ie. following another car that is going slow, my mini jumps around and wont go smoothly, i have tried tightening the engine mounts, wd40ing the accelerator cable, everything on the carby and the bits at the end of the pedal, straightening a kink out in the cable but it still does it! i dont know what else it could be! oh, it also pops out of first gear sometimes cause it jumps around so bad.. that could just be a dodgy gearbox tho! any suggestions??.. mel |

When was the last time your Mini had a new air filter, new points, new plugs, even new spark plug leads. Sounds like the timing is a bit out maybe. How about the tappet clearances? Is your distributor cap dirty - inside and/or outside? Good luck and keep trying to sort it out - you will eventually find the problem ![]() |

Mine seems to jump around and miss a beat or 2 below 2500rpm. Not sure if it's timing or cam related. |

I think if your carb is running too rich it will 'surge' with low revs.....I played a lot with my mixtures and found that, plus if it's too lean I found it had no grunt down low. |

I was just about to say, check your carb settings... sounds alot like running rich down low. If it's running ok above 2500rpm or so then that's most likely want it is... Turn that big screw underneath your SU, I think it's clockwise for richer? Can't remember... |

winding the nut UP makes it leaner. Do it 1 FLAT at a time, then road test each time. ![]() |
