Spoke to Graham russell and he said NGK BP5ES or champion equivilant. Especially if using unleaded fuels. This is what i have been doing for years and it works for me. Mind you i tend to drop back to BP6ES for summer.

What type of engines would they be OK for then? He seemed to think they were the way to go for hotted up engines and I don't have to contend with much traffic where I am.

What does the letter on the end of the part number mean?
I'm feeling really dumb right now.

What is the best plug to use in a slightly worked 1100S that has a Pulsar dizzy (don't know if that matters) :?:

I'd rather throw the N7YX's in the bin and buy new ones if they aren't the best ones to use. Thanks again.

Oh I also bought Top Gun 8.0mm Hi-Temp Silicone leads from him. Are these OK for that set up?

Can you shed some light?
i'm generally using the car for short trips round town, but i do like to take it for a burst along the freeway most weeks. What do i get?

ok, i'm buying a set of new leads and spark plugs. i am getting the 3 off B35Ri, 1 off B45Ri, 1 off B30CRi (coil lead) as suggested by the doc, but what is the difference between plugs? What plugs are the best? Why? Does it matter what engine you have? Cheers?

Most road Minis these days will run quite happily on either NGK BP6ES, Bosch W7DC, or Champion N9YC. I'd forget the fancy iridium and platinum ones- save your $$ and spend it on something else! Avoid using resistor plugs (have `R' in p/no) unless you have plain copper plug leads. Most Minis these days have suppression cables which have resistance built in, or suppression plug caps which do the same.

I've been using the Iridium Plugs-Drove from WA to Hay this year and didn't miss a "beat"... They cost about $18.00 each.Using Nippondenso-Part No- IW20. Engine Specs.1380 with electronic ignition,and maybe this also makes the difference. Cheers.

Sorry I don't know much about spark plugs but was told a while ago that Champion Gold N7YX were good to use on a Mini. Is this correct? Thanks. Ziff

No that's a colder running plug. Too cold for street use in most Minis. The numbers tell the story- With Champion, 9 = std, 11 = hotter running, 7 = colder running. Champion N7YC = NGK BP7ES = Bosch W6DC COLDER (for track etc) N9YC = BP6ES = W7DC STANDARD N11YC = BP5ES = W8DC HOTTER (for traffic etc)

(but I know better) the X is for some other `feature' of design but that won't affect the heat range rating. The N by the way denotes the `reach' (thread length) and the Y means projected nose. So there. I used to run BP7ES (same heat range) but had a couple foul while cruising on the freeway. If they don't foul on you they will be OK.

I said W7DC is standard and W8DC is a HOTTER plug. Either will do for your purpose. I'm still running standard grade plugs in mine (N9YC) as I got them cheap, they are burning fine and not fouling.
