Post subject:  Mini run out of fuel - An illustrated Camel Story

Okkher seeing how much i know you likes a story, lets go
so early finish from work on Fridays as usual, and i come home and decide that i will do some touch up painting on the mini, before a car meet on Sunday.

But i cant finds me a brush, or cotton balls, so i decide to go to the local rural supply shop, to see what they have to offer.

I thought also, id take the camera and see how taking photos of the waterfall nearby comes out.

So on the way to the shop, i went down the waterfall road, and took a few clicks of the falls, it was very light drizzle, so it was really just, bang, bang, bang, bang with the photos as fast as i could.
i think they came out alright, and they are quite pretty i thinks so.

But bugger it, time to be a complete idiot.

I thought about (before i got out upon arrival) driving the whole way down the people path to the lookout area in the mini, but i didnt.
It was pretty wet and slippery, and quite very steep, and with just me alone, i didnt want to get stuck, and be unable to venture forth.

\but i reversed a small way down the walking path, just for the camera, and got the photo with this directional indicatorial log.
so i easily could get back up the hill.
Image
It reminded me a bit of Big Duc, 68matic's, tight sqeeze adventure a while back, because down the path a bit there be found is a green handrailing, that i possible could only fit into with a few cm clearance overall. But that was great fun.

I think i may go back on not such a wet day, with a bit of pushing ppower for if i get stuck, or if enough of you guys think its a good idea -?:

Well

then i was roaring up the road, ive retreated to getting run-ups for hills now, so i reversed up the road a bit and went for it. Becuase its a long, windy, 2km+ uphill slog, almost the whole way.
I got to the last hill,
and BLURP it said to me and rocked foward and back, prolly doing 8-90 kays,
I initially thought i had blown the engine, but there wasnt a hint of smoke or smell of anything different, it just died, i went down through the gears, and putted along for a few more metres till it finally died completely. on this hill right here.
I shook and rocked the mini and tried to pump a bit of juice into wherever it goes, but it didnt work,
Image
Then a small truck, driver helped roll it down the hill off the road and he took me up to the town to the fuel place.

they gave me tin and i walked off.
then that paper delivery bloke, who i spak of in the ice story, was driving past and he laughed and then he took me the rest of the way to the mini, unfirtunately i wasnt in the Suzuki Carry Van.

But just when noting else interesting could happpen, i tried to pull the little funnel bit out of the tin fuel can, but it wouldnt come out. So i twisted it with my finger on the inside of the can, and bugger off. near sliced the top of meh finger off.
Image
you cant really see, but you get the ideaa. Tis at least 3mm sliced into the very top bit of the index finger, about half way down the fingernail, so not in a vvery thick area.
OUCH
it hurt, a bit, so then i had to pour fuel and additinve and crap all through it, ovbiously, it just had to work like that.
Now, i cant use the finger to type, and it is crazy trying to type with the much fatter, middle finger, it doesnt work too well, so apologies for the many spelling mistakes, i cant help it.

so that was fun

my fuel gauge is buggered, BUT i thought* i had at about 60 more miles left in the tank,
I had only done 120 miles for the 25 litres, i usually can do 185 and more for the 25.
So thats not even 22mpg, down from over 33 mpg.
That is Ridiculous. massive difference
the fuel guzzling mini, drinking as much as a 4.3L Hemi, and going like the small rubbish thing it is, hahahaha
something is wrong ^_^,
I like it a lot

This tank was in through all my dismantling and remantling and breaking and trying to fix things, It also had a fuel system/carby cleaner liquid added to the tank as well, which was apparently meant to make it more efficent, and give it a good flush out. all its done is increased my fuel eating by 33% hahahaha.

But it was all a funny prize, have fun

the only realistic thing that i reckon could have made it even a more great fun adventure, is if it had have ran out of juice whilst i had stopped on the walking track.
silly boy

Nice story and photos thanks for sharing Camel :)..

BTW I always knew when I was about to run out of petrol in my Cooper S as when the tank was nearlly empty it started to run on only a couple of cylinders. It was always enough just to get me to the nearest gas station and I could always here the electric fuel pump making noises while it was trying to pump what little fuel I had left :)..

Love these stories camel - keep up the good work!

Maybe one day you can make these anecdotes into a book,
like Max Walker's "How to Hypnotise Chickens"

i never run out of fuel... my fuel gage is stuffed and only goes up to 3/4 full even if its pouring out the side while im driving. so it usualy says empty and i put 10 litres in it and fill it up... not sure if i wanna test its limits, maybe one day? is it bad for the engine to run out of petrol?

I ran out of petrol in my mini only 10 days after I bought it. I wasn't used to a car that didn't blink lights and crap at me when it was nearing empty and was having too much fun hooning around in my new car to notice the guage. :?

I was told by a passer-by that there was a petrol station just round the next corner. I decided to push the car up hill to the corner where I could then roll down the hill in the next street to the petrol station. I didn't want to have to pay $10 for one of those stupid little cans they sell. By the time I'd pushed the car up hill and was rolling down the hill toward the supposed petrol station I realised that the passer-by was an idiot and there was no petrol station after all.

Long story short, I pushed my mini 1.5km through traffic and pulled to the side of the road each time a tram needed to pass. Intersections were a bit of a hairy experience.

It was only supposed to be just round the corner. :? Also, if I walk to the petrol station without my car then I have to walk back as well. Taking the car with me halved the walking. ;)
