Post subject:  Floor Panel Replacement

Hi All,

Well, been started on the floor now, got the bulk sections cut out of one side, but I have a question. What does that funny bit that sticks out the side of transmission tunnel into the drivers floor area do? Do i need it there? Its that bit that comes out from the transmission tunnel just in front of the crossmember.

Is it safe to cut it out and have the new floor panel (plenty of height) bend into the transmission tunnel so its just a nice long hemisphere?

Soo, its not there for strength? Its safe to cut out? Or should I leave it there? This mini isn't anything authentic or anything, its just a deluxe.

You'll get smacked in the head by any purist that sees it missing but apart from that there is no structural reason to keep it [unless you want to re-install the starter button on the floor] - the floor pans from the later clubbies don't have it I believe.

Jeez, you guys are a hard bunch to please

Well, its either I cut the floor to match the car, or cut the car and just trim the floor, probably safer doing the latter after my last efforts with the front end

I would cut it to suit the car, as I did with the 850 of Anton's. Being Pommy made they don't fit an Oz shell real good anyway.
Did you buy the early panels (pre-rodchange) or the later ones? I used early ones and it wasn't too hard. Had no hydro trays in the floor though... :D
