Left the house this morning on the way to the British Car Day and about 10k up the road I start hearing a rythmic thudding and feeling it through the steering wheel. After I pulled over and jacked the front up, I found the pax side uni joint has lost one of the u bolts securing it. ![]() So no display for me I'm afraid, I'll be giving her a little TLC. Rather than pull another out, does anyone know what size u bolt I need to get? Cheers, Dan |

I think she is having her mid-life nervous breakdown. ![]() I just got off the phone with Rick (one of mechs at work) and he said "Oh, yeah we didn't put the last u bolt on as we could not get it in. Sorry forgot to mention it" ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Still I suppose that is better than her shearing it off through a underlying problem. I think the drive shaft may be bent also, if so I've got a spare to swap over. At least it didn't fail at Parra, I'd be in a world of hurt then. |

exactly what happened to me. that rythimic thud is the u bolt hiting the chassis. u can still drive it worse comes to worse, execpt it gets louder, faster, and harsher as u go. 200 got me labour, new yolks and new u-bolts. |

All is well now, I found some new u bolts in my box-o-crap. I took the uni completely out to make sure it was ok and it seemed to be fine. A quick (and careful) blat around the block afterwards confirmed she's good. ![]() However while under there I found the damage caused by someone leaving a broken hammer head on the road. ![]() ![]() |

The mechanic who did my WoF inspection said one of my uni joints was on the way out, and was done up too tight. He said there should only be 4 threads showing, no more. So I'm going to order some more and install them as per the book. He warned me of a few minis he's seen where the uni joint's given way and the driveshaft has rattled round and make a right mess. |
