Post subject:  fitting a boot seal

Has anyone had the pleasure of trying to fit a new seal onto the boot lid of a clubman (they might all be the same not sure).
Any tips? advice? I got no idea....

Well if they're all the same it's really easy, I've done one on a deluxe. Basically just push it on, and it sits there.. But I'm not sure if its the same for a clubman, better wait for a clubby owners advice.

I was under the impression that some form of adhesive needed to be used?
The door seals are easy. They are just push on but the boot is a different monster.

The title is not encouraging though :?

I must have done it the bodgy way :D well it worked fine for me, took 2 minutes, boot closes fine and keeps everything out..

Thanks Fuzzy hair man.

Think I'll just use adhesive to glue the thing shut after reading that thread. :?

bah ha ha.....and it is STILL hard to close, although I can close it now!

I have pics of the seal installation......will dig them out.

I started at the bottom middle of the bootlid, and used a new original seal and clips to fit it. Position the seal on the boot lid. Look at where the next hole is for a clip, then fit the clip to the seal, then press into boot lid. Push HARD till you hear the clip 'click' into the lid.

Repeat for every clip (26 in total I believe). You end up where you started, then just cut the excess seal off.

Took me an hour or so (to fit) then half an hour to close the damn boot! I guess it depends on alignment and things like that.

NB: I would much rather my method than glueing! Anything that is stuck tp paint is a NO NO in my opinion. Messy and permanent! :x At least you can undo clips!!!

I think mine has just been siliconed on.
If there are clips under there no way will I get the bugger off.
Doesn't look as neat, but works very well.

Sickaflex is the way to go, sticks incredibly well and is a marine grade. Just make sure you apply the pressure equally when trying to close the boot the first time as it's easy to ding your lid  Oh yeah, the seal is easy to get off, just run a wire or fishing line garrotte under the seal.
