Post subject:  Help I got a sticky window :(...
Ok have been playing around with Granny all day and washing all the trims :). After I cleaned the passenger side trim up and put it back on the car I thought I would make sure the window wound down. But of course as my luck would have it the window would not wind down. So I pulled the trim back off again and what I thought would be something simple is now causing me grief as I have sticky window.

At first I thought it was the actual winder in the passenger door sticking because of the all the old grease. So I sprayed heaps of WD 40 into the winder and it seemed to free it up a little. Well now I can turn the handle anyway :). But after un-doing the screws that hold the winder in place I now think it is the window as I tried pushing the window down and pulling it up again with the palms of my hands and its awfully tight.. So I was wondering can anyone recommend anything I can put in the window tracks to try and free this up a bit? As I thought it would be best to ask on here before I started spraying anything on there.

I had same problem as you, and did same thing you did with my passengers window also. Its still very tight, will be interested to hear anyone who knows how to fix it :)

silicon spray will fix it if it is tight on the seals but you'll have streaky windows for a while... :(

Ok thanks I will give that a go. Hmm where can I purchase this silicon spray from? Is a auto spare parts place the best place? As I can live with streaky windows for a while as I just want to get this fixed before I move onto other things :)..

I'm pretty sure you can get it at auto shops.
Do you belive it is the tracks or the seals? If it is tracks I'd go for some sort of grease.

I'd hold out for a few more opinions on this one. I'd hate to responsible for permanently streaky windows. :oops:

my passenger window actually catches on the wire for the locking remote control. as best i can tell, the little arm from the remote control that is screwed in to the door itself has more bend in it than it should, and hence it sticks out on a different angle than it should, and the window catches it. haven't actually diagnosed it any further than that yet - i just pull the wire out of the way as i wind it down.

Thanks guys.... Well I am pretty sure its the window and the felt tracks causing it as you have to use some effort to push the window down and pull it up again with my hands.

I mean what else can it be?

The window is not catching on anything when it goes up and down and it just seems too tight to me..

Dry lube is what you should use. It is a stick like a crayon and you rub it into the channel.
Silicon spray will work (and work well!) but if you need to do any paint work to the car the paint will not stick! :wink:

I heard that sticking windows is due to the felt wearing down to the rubber, and the only real fix is to replace the window felts. Both my Clubmen probably need doing, but I bought a kit to do the sliding windows on the Mk II from Minibitz. Good quality stuff and comprehensive - now I just need to find the time to do it...

Ok thanks once again.. I did'nt get to play around with Granny today so tommorow I will look into these options.. Also do you know if you can buy the felt runners here in Aus and where abouts :)? As eventually I will strip her all down and do a full respray so I might as well start getting all the parts ready now..

Ok fixed the window today.. Just put some graphite powder in there and it worked a treat.. Still a little tight as you get towards the bottom but atleast it can be wound up and down now :)..
