Post subject:  weird vibration

i have been getting a strong vibration through the whol car recently

i'm thinking it's one of the inner rubber uni things that is gone.
it's noticable on straight ahead acceleration, barely there on right hand turns
but verging on violent on left hand turns under acceleration. but is barely noticable on the left turns if your not on the gas.

i haven't been able to get it on the hoist yet to check it out properly.

it started after i did an oil change and put penrte hpr 50 in (too thick for winter, but i usualy use hpr 40 but couldn't get any at the time)
could this have done anything with the diff perhaps? or just a coincidence?

what do people think??

Where is the vibration coming from? If it's from the engine it could be an engine mount is lose, or needs replacing.. If it's your uni's the vibrations will probably be coming from underneith you.. your gear stick will vibrate like hell.

it comes through the whole car, mainly felt through the steering wheel when it's not so bad, but when it's real bad you have no hope of pinpointing it, it comes through everything. oh and it seems to be going at wheel speed.

HPR50 won't hurt the diff but it may make the primary gear drag on the crank. I tried it once and couldn't get gears when stopped. Too bloody thick, it's 40W/70...
Check the rubber donuts first but I doubt it.
It could be a C/V is dry, or (hope not) breaking up planet gears in the diff... as Baracade had. Is it making crunching noises?

I know this is a bit simplistic but it could be wheel alignment could it?

it has been hard to get gears, the first few changes from stationary. too expensive to change it to something thiner just yet.

it really is quite a violent vibration on left turns and accelerating.

there are no noises at all, no grinding, no crashing, nothing untoward in that regard.

wheel alignment/balance is way off unfortunately.

how much are disc brake cv's worth? ball park.

CV is probably just dry. Wash it out, `recondition' it with a $14 kit...
New ones are $80- $120 ea.

 Test. Put on full LH lock in a carpark, do some laps at full lock. Does it click? If so needs cleaning/greasing. Do both.

That reminds me , I need to check mine, it's been clicking for a while on full lock, ahhh the joys of a car that's been on the road since I was 9  fix one thing and watch the next start to fail
