Hi was wondering if anyone can please tell me if the compressor or pump if that is what it is called is suppose to turn freely? As mine is bolted to the engine but I cannot turn it over by hand it seems to be seized.. Or does it need to be connected up to the engine before it turns over? Also if it is seized is there anyway I can get this fixed? Thanks.. |

Yes it should turn freely. To fix it, remove the pump complete with it's mounting bracket, and as you're in Sydney, take it to the harbour and drop it in at the deepest part. Remove & block off the redundant hoses. Fixed ![]() ![]() |

I like the idea of ditching it, mine only has the canister. One of the hoses goes to the rocker and one to the float chamber. Do I block off both? Wont the rocker one need to go somewhere? |

If you didn't get what awd was saying... he means that the air pump is completely useless! It infact made the car run worse, and didn't help the pollution at all (some say it made it worse!). Remove it and fill the holes with grub screws. |

What about the canister though, can I get rid of that? |

Ok thanks for you replies ![]() All the pollution gear on Granny is intact and connected. Just that the fan belt is missing from the air pump and I cannot seem to turn the air pump over. Granted that you say I should remove it and throw it in the harbour and if Granny wasnt so perfect I would consider this ![]() ![]() ![]() So any additional help will be very much appreciated.. |

Just leave the belt off and run it as is.... if you need the air pump then get it fixed latter on I reckon ![]() I reckon getting rid of all the pollution gear makes it obvious to a RTA inspectory person that you have just got rid of it all (probably in the interests of performance). If it is still there but not working they won't be as bad I reckon (it just stopped working and parts have become unavailable) and if they insist that it needs to be working then you don't have to go and find as many no longer available parts ![]() ![]() |

You can, but it seems to be the one thing that cops/inspectors look for. They are useless unless you replace the charcoal every 2 years I threw out the charcoal & just stuffed some cotton wool in it to keep bugs'n'dust out ![]() Oh, and DJ, if you put a post in the Wanted section I'm sure someone will give you a replacement pump for nix (if you can find someone who was too lazy to drive to the harbour) ![]() |

We put a Mk1 S motor and Weber into a 78 Clubby once, and for the blueslip they didn't give a toss. Just checked it had discs under there.. ![]() Must have been the nice later Police issued engine number...N89****P |

JAM, can you tell me what you did with the various hoses etc. Did you just plug up all of the holes or do some of them still need to breathe? |

Thanks everyone for all your replies ![]() Im not to worried about increasing the performance or anything like that on Granny. But more concerned about keeping her original. Besides sooner or later I will end up with a Cooper S and I will be more than happy with the performance from that ![]() Thanks Makka For your kind offer. I am quite happy to pay you for it as I dont want you to be out of pocket and will send you a PM now.. |
