I think its time to flush your tank out and ensure you have a fuel filter in the Line |

yeah sorry guys i mean the rocker cover cap or where you put the oil into the engine it doesnt seem to be doing it much if at all when i drive short distances around city but it was its first real run since engine was put in 1100 went on top of another 998 gearbox and the 1100 had been sitting without a head for a while maybe just a little dirt from that ???? or something to worry about i was checking the cap to make sure there wasnt any creamy stuff and i noticed little bits of dirt (looked like dirt) and wiped then when i stopped again a little was there again |

if you didnt clean everything properly, then i would guess it could be dirt. if you cleaned everything before you put the engine together then perhaps its burnt oil mixing with oil to create a sludgey dirt like substance. i dont know how this could happen... sump to pistons to valves to rocker cover? or through the camshaft along the push rods to the head to the cover? does the stuff have sand grains in it like normal dirt? |

no sand just a black dirtish stuff not much of it but grainy enough to feel when you rub between your fingers |

Sounds like sludge. Check you have enough breathers and they're not blocked, change oil, take it for a good long run. I found Penrite HPR30 gave me a little bit in the neck, but Castrol Formula R 25W/50 doesn't. ![]() |

Maybe...? For every litre of fuel burned 1.25L of water (vapour) is produced. Usually it goes out the exhaust, but.. if motor is old and worn you will have more blowby of fuel and water vapour past the rings- recipe for sludge. ![]() |

Its in the boot Son.....Its the twist off cap below the windows!!! ![]() Try about a litre to a tankfull..... ![]() Metho displaces water from fuel Son...... ![]() give it a try...... ![]() Oh, and by the way, I think you need to try a few rapid oil changes with cheap oil just to clean out the gunge......Is your radiator water also oily?? Might be a valve guide or head gasket on the way out??? ![]() |
