I came across this Mini for sale the other day and I have never seen an engine like it. The oil filter screws straight into the block to the left of the didtributor where the mini engine normally has the oil pipe coming out that goes to the filter housing. The engine number starts with 10H/705EH####. Has any one got any Ideas of the engine sort ? The guy recons it is a 1071 ? I can't say anything as I have never seen one. |

Probably Sth African. Their `1100' motors were 1071 but with a big journal crank. Filter screws direct onto block, like the last of UK ones too. |

yes thats the one. south african 1098 big bore short stroke, bullet proof motor. we revved one out for an hour once with a brick on the accelerator pedel and guess what it ran out of petrol before it stopped the guy still drives it to this day. valve bouncing at 7000rpm. amazing motor. |

Oil pressure at start up ain't an A Series forte.... thats why some people assemble their old fashioned oil filters and 2/3 fill it with fresh oil before screwing it on to the housing

True.
Also like many Toyotas etc it is thoughtfully designed to pi$$ oil all over the engine when you take it off...

I have just put my belovved one up for sale for $4500. full spec motor fully rebuilt. Not the same as an early S motor as far as i know, but yeah runs large jackets etc its a really good motor but the oil filter is the hassles as the south african ones have a 1 way drain valve in them the local ones dont, so you always get a bit of drain back in the motors, but mine has been running for 4 years over here without a hiccup. if anyone is interested, it works out a lot cheaper than building one yuorself. http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/auct ... d=34286628 i think that should get you to the specs. Ill ship anywhere if buyers cost. |
