At it again today.
Most stuff organised for the piecing together of my new engine.

Started assembling it and torqued down all the main bearing caps. Cranky no spinny.
Hmmmm.
Loosened off centre cap. No difference.

Anyways long story short - end cap looks like some tool has hit it with a hammer previously and it was about 3 thou bent. Just enough to stop crank from spinning nice and freely.

We checked the old bearings, and sure enough found the one with one side abnormally worn.

Dont want it fully linebored - just line honed to get it back to normal size.
Unfortunately this could take until some time early next week and I'm back at work on Monday.

There goes me assembling the engine under GR's supervision and learning as I go!! Oh well.

Oh dear  and the motor was overhauled only recently?

Yeah.

I bought it as a "Brand New Never Started" Reco motor.

Lasted a week and a half originally

Rebuilt as a slap together because I had spent all my money buying the car and getting it running.

Now we can spend some time on it, we can afford to be finnicky.

Damn GR is thorough - good to see someone care about their work so much.

Crickey bob, I hope that's the last setback you have touch wood. I was wincing when I openned this thread. I was praying that it wasn't something too big...

I guess you found the reason why the last crank died?

Let me know if you need new caps... I have a set here.

Caps are not interchangeable between blocks, they would always need line boring and sometimes are just too far out of alignment for this to happen.
Easier to make a new one, from hi-tensile steel ....

Well I thought since he was taking to to get line bored...

Fine then, you can't have them!

Thanks anyway - the offending cap is only 3 thou out on one side and the other 2 are fine so no dramas.

Hoping to only have it line honed, not line bored anyways. I've already got the bearings so I hope I don't need another set!!

Anyways, on a better note - Graham Finished my head. He was proud of it and told me to post some photos of it on here.

Looks nice eh? Nice polished ports!!

Yeah I thought so.

On the Bling front, Since I had to wait for the crank, and now the block, I've been using Grahams Linishing and polishing machines. I've buffed up one of his SU Manifolds and also Darren Polished up the top of my SU for me. I scored an old looking Alloy Rocker Cover and I'll try and give that the treatment too - pity the rest of the engine bay is going to look crap!!!!

I love the polished alloy look - looks better than chrome I reckon 8)

Why wouldn't it? Every other part of this engine has been butchered by the previous "engine builder"!!

(I put that in inverted commas as I use that term only very loosely to describe that bastard!!)
