Post subject:  Floor Replacement Info

I am in a process of replacing my entire floor in my 850 Van, the rate the rust gets a hold of these minis Ill be like fred flintstone soon.

Im currently panel beating an entire floor pan (well there is a few dents near the feet seems whoever owned it like driving over logs). This aside the floor is completely rust free. Unfortunately its a rod change so not quite as original as I would have prefered.

However at the moment I am chiseling away the unwanted strips of metal along the spot welds with a air chisel. I am then giving the stubs a bit of a tap back in with a hammer so the dip where the spot weld curves in becomes flat again and then grinding off the stub on the other side. I presume this is one of the better methods, i have no idea? Any suggestions?

Will I need to cross brace the van or is the fact that there is a load tray there mean that it wont warp too much?

So yeah Im just wondering if anybody has some good links or info on floor replacement, possibly with pics?

Do you think it be costly to get a panel beater to do a small job of reflattening a bit of the footwell?

Thanks

Clayton

Sounds like you've got a good plan going there.
The other way it's done is to drill through the spot welds,
then use those holes to plug weld the replacment floor in place.

As for the panel beaters,
hey it's Friday - call into you local panel beater's with a cold carton & they won't say no

Definately brace. It's too cheap and easy to risk not doing.

Otherwise, show us some pics!

Beer hey,

I should have though of that, good idea. I just might try that one, theres a panel beater around the corner witha sign no job too small so I might just be lucky.

Hows things going on the moke mike? Have you got you NOS yet ?

Zizzle: True fact hey, Im just concerned about welding the bracing on and making a mess. Im just thinking if there is another way I could attach them? Maybe bolting them on somehow through pre-existing holes.

850 floors pans was avaiable from Mini Clinic now mini spares some years ago correct ones and all, maybe not the back ones but sure the front, I replaced mine in my 1967, and was cheaper then repairing them, you have to get the right ones for the channels to line up, they even have the rasied section for the floor start button

And yes all panel shops love beer, after 8 years a coldie is often had with my panel shop we are still good mates, if you find a little local bloke they are often quite helpful, with this project and ones in years to come, and there advice is cheap
