No you do not need to take the sub frame out...at all...just undo the bolts at the rear....
This has helped many people out...this will look after you

You need to loosen the 2 bolts or nuts each side in top of towers too.

C'mon Chris where is the fun in that!!! you need to do it wrong once or twice , put it in, take it out , put it back and have someone tell you an easier way to do it . That's why I ask here first.
