Festival of Sports Cars
(http://www.mgracing.com.au)

Some movers and shakers in the MG Car Club in Sydney have developed a new race meeting series with an emphasis on sports cars.

They spoke to the Gary Willmington at Wakefield Park and settled on Friday 19th, Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st August.

Then they decided to map out all the cars they would invite. The biggest hurdle was always going to be the dispensations given to the Historic Group S cars as opposed to other production based sports cars.

So they wrote to CAMS and asked for their help and got it in spades! The Technical Manager drew up a list of minor upgrades required for Group S cars to race with everybody else and the great news is ? the list is in fact quite small.

MG Racing is already planning 3 meetings next year (WP, OP, OP) and so this meeting is not a one-off but the start of something long term and great. They are also inviting all Historic sports cars from Groups L, M O and Q and Group N, so you can expect some action there as well.

Three Minis there today...my friend Mike McGee from Inverell. Drove down, unloaded the car, got into the race suit, did qually laps!!

John Battersby also was howling around...must ask him why the suspension is so low at the back :? and another one I didn't know.

Tomorrow and Sunday there could be a swag of Minis racing
(I'm hoping anyway :!: :D )

What a fantastic race meeting :!: 8)....so which two bug eyes :?: Loved the absolutely evil black one with double the track of a normal sprite and huge flares  8)

#101 had a few problems....hmmmm...the little silver Sebring hardtop seemed to go hard all weekend....wished I'd known earlier...would have said howdy :D

101 was my mum driving Colin Dodds' car as our group s/road sprite is still in a box sailing back from the states. the problem remains undefined. it just turned off and wouldnt start, but after a while it kicked with no problems :?:

My old man was driving car 10 the evil black one, he was surprisingly quick seeing as he hasnt turned the wheel in anger in a while. But he still didnt beat my time so we all came home happy.

In the last race on sunday, he got pinged for a jump start and got a minute penalty. a bit harsh seeing as he raised the flag, dropped his elbow then dropped the flag.... hmmm
ahhh well, its not racing for sheepstations.
What did you think of the ferrabee mx-5 with the a9x torana flares???

Nothing personal...but I was asked to hang out the one min penalty board :? we just do what Race Control tell us to....the car is quick off the line...btw I tried to warn your Dad with sign language that there was a massive oil patch just beyond start finish...don't know if I got through to him

Ummmm...didn't like the look of the flares on the MX5...car went alright...but I reckon something a little more moulded to the lines of the car would suit it better (you did ask :!:  )
