Ok I just replaced the speedo cable in my brother's mini and I thought yep that'll fix it ......but ...............no being a mini it doesn't want to co-operate, so i thought it was the speedo but I dont think it is because I went and got my speedo for my van (same drive-screw in at the back) and tried that and I know that one works but the thing is I pulled the drive out and had a bit of a drive with it out and it doesn't seem to be spining at all........... so now it has lead me to believe that the drive coming out of the gearbox is r**ted.

So this leads me back to my question that I'll ask

"How hard is it/even possible to replace the drive coming out of the box for the speedo?"

it is possible, but before you o down that route, make sure that the cable it fully seated in the box. The cable should neatl sit in the sleeve at the speedo and and only have half an inch visible. if you have put it in and it isn't all the way in it won't work as it isn't actually connected. have a fiddle with it. if you are fiddleing, it will eventually go in then it WONT spin as it has locked into place. then try it. if it doesn't work then the dog is probably gone kaput.

Cheers

Aaron
