There is a really strong smell coming into our std 850, after about 5 minutes driving. I'll do a little research, but it's hard to tell if it's stronger when cornering or not. It's coming from the carb ro nearby, so could it be: (a) worn carb which leaks petrol (b) something else. (you can see I haven't done much detective work yet...) |

If you have a mechanical fuel pump then check that it is not leaking from the cap. I have had 2 minis leak fuel from there. Is there an visible leaks on the ground if idleing for a while? |

First thing i'd do is undo the 3 screws on the carbie bowl and check that the float hasn't got a hole in it or if the float valve is working right. |

Just for the record, the smell was coming from a loose float bowl. As it was so loose, the float bowl was tilted back about 30 degrees. So I made it level and tightened it up. So no smell of gas, and no bogging down in corners - it's like a new car. I was so buoyed up by my success in fixing the mini, I fitted my new horns to the Commer. PARRRRP! But there's a downside to every Fathers' Day. In this case, it was looking after 2 other kids as well as ours. For some reason, our kids are darlings and everyone else's are little pr!cks... |
