Who here uses it?
Do you mainly use it for cruising?

I'm thinking of bidding on one on ebay coz its quite cheap.
Might have a look at cashies or a pawnbroker as well.

I dont really like the idea of the huge mofo of an antenna.
Is there any other way to having one? I would think they could be quite fun.
Also, can an in-car unit talk to a handheld one?

buy a hand held one... 2 for $79 at supercheap.
3km line of sight range (much more actually!)
and yes... they can talk to the in-car ones.
I use mine for cruising on the mini tour, and talking to truck drivers around town... just for the fun of it :P

In the metro - forget it - range is lousy and the handhelds are worse

For cruzin outside metro - brillant - even hand helds

All to do with the sources of radio interference and congestion of the airwaves in metro

i had the idea of putting a mini-ITX based PC my car whihc meant i could put a LED information display (like the ones you see when waiting in line) on the dash and parcel shelf (facing out) so you can write happy messages to other road users. You know like "BACK OFF YOU TAILGATING C**T!"

:D

Frog Here You need a call sign

You can be Cushy :P (luv your new nick name but its probley not new to y) and Zia (y should b able to find some history on this one :? )

I use to have a Totem on my rear bumper of my Mini clubmen (in the centre) it was like a fishing rod. Every once in a while it would unthread slightley and slid along the road, so its slightly shorter than it use to be.

Makka had a metal Whip on his but Ill let him explain what he use to do with that. I'm not willing to express other peoples preferances  .

they are great fun and handy in the country and you can meet up with some interseting people

if you are going to buy a cb radio get a UHF not 27 megahertz uhf is what all truck drivers use these day channle 40 cept on the pacific highway sydney to brisbane they use 29 you can buy small uhf radio's from around 200 dollars my pref for a in car radio is the icom pro 400 it is fully programible has a 35 watt out put and are solidly construckted BUT it is worth over $400 coupled with a 6.5 db raised feed anttena on a gutter mount which is removerble use rubber under it so it wont damage your paint but if you want a hand held icom also do a good hand held most of the cheaper hand helds you need to buy batterys for spend a little more (reads lot's ) and it will have a rechargable battery attached also another good thing with the uhf is the repeter system (channles 1 - 8 ouputs 31 - 38 inputs)we have 4 or 5 in sydney i use the channle 7 repeater here good for a laff any ways enuff of my ramblings ....

oh yeah my 9 ft stainless antenna i had it on the back of my mini it looked like an upsized r/c car and on the bull bar of the 4wd was leathall when you jam on the brakes it would whip forward and hit other cars
