Bloody confusing...
Took Ha-Ha to Caltex/Woolworths for some 98 octane go-juice yesterday as it's getting dear and I had a Woolies voucher..
Anyhow I rock up to the Vortex pumps, stick nozzle in, 17L, put in other side, 17L... THEN I discover I've picked up the Vortex nozzle, not the Vortex 98 (red) one.. f***...
Ha-Ha likes 98, he's running 10.7:1 C/R.

Sooooooo, I went home and decanted it all into Barney...
He can handle it.

Trouble is the Vortex 95 nozzle is blue like the BP Ultimate 98 (which I usually get).

So be careful what fuel you pump....

Just make sure you put the wrong one in on the way to the dyno day

At least it wasnt diesel Kev - would have made life interesting. I did the same thing a few weeks back - not looking what I was doing and pumped Henry full of 91 Caltex - ran like a dog for a week. Another thing going round here in ACT is kids swapping the nozzles around on the bowsers - little pricks!!

Well atleast the fuel did'nt go to waste ..

Reminds me of an incident I had when I was younger with my Mk1 Cooper S and of course being a know it all at that age ...

I pulled up at the petrol station along side the bowser and I was in a big hurry to go somewhere. Anyway I grabbed the first available bowser opened up the left hand tank and shoved the nozzle in..

Now I was standing there for a minute or so and nothing was happening. So I started yelling out at the console operator to hurry up and get his act together because I was in a hurry. The guy just looked at me and started waving.. I thought how rude are you! So I yelled at him again and said stop waving at me and hurry up and turn the bowser on.. By this time people at the service station were looking at me as I was starting to get very heated..

Anyway the console operator threw his hands up in the air came rushing out the door and said. "Hey I dont think Mini Minors like diesel"....

At first I thought the guy was on drugs so I yelled back him saying I know that and by the way this is a Cooper S not a Mini Minor thank you. Then I looked at the bowser and it turned out that indeed I had tried to fill my Cooper S up with diesel fuel

So I said opps sorry my mistake and went onto the next bowser...

My local Cal hasnt got 95 yet, only 92 which is yellow and 98 which is dark blueish green... so 95 is gonna be bluey green is it and 98 red?

I can't remember the difference in colours (I think one label is green on silver and the other is silver on green), but basically the 95 and 98 (both called vortex) are very similar at Caltex.

In order to ensure you get what you want, you have to stop, engage first gear in the brain, think, and then choose.

All looks the same in the clear siphon hose.... 95 Caltex looks just the same as BP98.... greeny yellow...

On the Central Coast there is only 2 or 3 Woolworths Caltex servos that have the 98 I just head for the shell optimax.

JAM's very first tank of juice was VORTEX.....filled up this arvo with ULTIMATE. Runs much smoother and feels much better.

Yea Vortex 98 always strikes me as just a copeout (Caltex needed a 98 octane fuel to compete in the Supermarket petrol wars). I dont trust it, and since its dearer around here than BP or mobil, I avoid it.

Talking about bowser fun though, how bout that: I've got a little red fuel can from Repco. Rated to a marked 1.01 gallon (4.6 litres). I use it up sometimes and now and again replace it with fresh petrol so that it doesnt get too much moisture in it. Anyways, whenever I fill it up I take care to fill it right to the 1.01 line. Different petrol stns always show different readings but its always between 5.5litres and 6.5 litres (one Shell stn in Ultimo). Is this to do with the differences of mass\volume between liquids or are pumps that innacurate (10% or 6litres in a 60lit tank)?

I've been told the true measure you get depends greatly on the temp of the day as it affects fuel density. This applies when the tankers drop their load too....?

No worries Doc, just fill up your jerry can and put it in the fridge. On the morning of dyno day, fill the tank up with it and walla! Instant HP!
