The price of fuel is still creeping up. It's now up to $1.40 per litre for standard unleaded. Maybe it's time to detune my car, squeeze every dollar. I've got the original 1.5" carb, which is sitting on the moke at the moment. Who recon's it would be worth while swapping the twins with the 1.5" carb? I got the 1.5" with my car when I got it, so it's not been on since i've got the car. It come sitting on a cut down 1.5" manifold as the car has LCB's on it. I'd also be interested to see how the car goes with the 1.5" on it. Also, i've got a metro turbo water heated manifold sitting here, maybe that will help with efficiancy. Only issue is the air cleaner, it will have to be a standard large donut one at the moment. The twins can go back on if the experiment fails (ie too slow, hehe). |

Sign of the times - I'm certain you won't be the last one to start turning his thoughts to economy rather than outright performance. I'm going to out myself as having a soft spot for old V8's and Chrysler 6 packs (*gasp*) ![]() I wonder what we will make of the dyno day this saturday in many years time when the bragging rights will be about economy ? Them were the days ?? |

I think you'll find the twins will be more efficient.. |

I heard that twins don't use more fuel than a single, as they are more efficient in the way they feed the fuel to the cylinders (fuel/air ratio) I still reckon they suck the juice big time. I am going to try my HIF38 when it gets here in a few weeks. I will be interested in the comparison of power and fuel consumption. |

My economy improved when I went from a single 1?" to twin 1?" ![]() Make sure that the vacuum to the dizzy is working and learn to lift the foot! My best economy on a trip was between Wentworth Falls and Goulburn with 48mpg (5.88 litres/100k) I have a HIF44 in my Montego with a 1275 and it is supposed to get 50mpg on highway driving. I will have to get it finished! |

i found that my twin hs2 or 1.25'' carbies were more fuel efficiant than my hif6 or 44 i dunno what its called but yeh so maybe they will be the go when fuel price is high |

Well i'm gunna do some experimenting I thinks! I've got the right needle sitting here for my HIF44, just need a ramflow for it (and a throttle cable mount). The needle in the 1.5" carb should be the right one, as it was suposed to be off the car anyways. |
