Post subject:  How much for a re-spray??

Hi there,

If I want to get my mini re-sprayed in original Acrylic "Oh Fudge" colour what can I expect to pay??

I'm prepared to do most of the prep work and get it to undercoat stage and take it down to a painter stripped and ready to just mask and paint.

Of-course I'd be looking for a pretty decent job. I'm expecting to pay somewhere between $1000 - $1500. Am I close or way off the mark??

Thanks,
BC :)

Asked a mate who is a spray dude for BMW

He reckons 2000 for a good job.

Depends on how much prep work is needed.

Thanks Maxi.

I guess I'd be aiming to have the car COMPLETELY ready for the paint to go straight on. i.e. NO prep work for the painter......at least that's what I'd be aiming for.

thats heaps cheap! I just was chatting to some bogan panel beater and he said it would set me back about $3500 to $4000 for 2pac. I was like oookay mate. $1200 is quite affordable. Its handy to know someone or a friend of a friend who can get you a cheap price when it comes to resprays.

if you saw a $1200 job compared to a $3-4000 job there is a huge difference.

you really get what you pay for in todays society..
get crap cheap, expect a cheap ass job

My MK2 Cooper S was sprayed inside & out in red then the roof done in black, all in 2 pac, the very mates rates cost was $1200, my van is getting painted now inside & out in dark blue & a silver roof, around $1000 will cover it, again at mates rates, so your $1000=$1500 is a good price as long as it's a good job.
There was a place in Sydney called on day auto paint how would respray a car in one day for about $1000, the gloss would last about 3 months

I hear ya 850 - although my budget aint gonna allow me to spend $3-4k on a job. I have a whole car to re-build on a pretty limited budget :( ..... plus everyone tells me that the most important part of a re-spray is in the prep?? If I take my time and get that right as well as pick a good re-sprayer I should still end up with a pretty reasonable job right?

Thanks to all for your comments

Pooee - Can you PM me this guys details IF you have them. Otherwise I suppose I can track him down through the mini club .... maybe??

I've also been told through a VMCI member that there's a guy in Port Melbourne who's done quite a few mini's and "looks after" mini enthusiasts. I'll be sure to let everyone know what i decide....

Watch this space for a new topic about "the re-birth of the Brown Clubman".

Cheers,
BC :)

Hey FIGJAM - which one? The guy with the smashed up brown clubby from Sale??

He's changed his mind and is keeping his mini for now

Bummer!! That would have kicked along my resto so much. Oh well - onto eBay for some "bargains" hehe. Good stuff costs HEAPS!!! But I only want the best for my brown clubby.

Cheers,
Browny ( I like it )

Most pro spray painters wont touch anything they havent prepped. the end result will show the preppers **** and therefore reflect back on them

We were quoted to have the Traveller stripped it would cost ($1,500).

Panel and Paint (very little panel work needed) $8,500.

And we thought that was a good price.

Quoted by a resto guy for concourse work $19,000.

So maybe if I just got it back to bare metal for them then?? I'm guessing there's gonna be SFA to do to it as far as panel work goes. Surely that would still save me plenty - as opposed to taking a complete car down to them and saying - "here, do the lot"
