Gday everyone,
I am thinking of buying another mini, there is a problem tho, the guy who is selling it says that he took the complience plate off to paint it and has lost it. Can it be inspected and a new one put on? It is apparently a 1967 model. I am located in the ACT, i spose there would be different regulations in each state.
Thanks in advance.
Steve.

Pre 71 cars did not have a 'compliance plate'. They had an 'ID' plate. This plate merely stated Body number (different to chassis number), engine number (when the car was new) and colour.

All you need is the number on the rad shroud (chassis number), for rego purposes.

If the year of the vehicle is in question, they just ask you "What year model is it?"

that would be a silly thing to do, just lose you compliance plates

i rekon he thinks he wont get it registered cause he bought it without the plates
so he is selling it cheap :)

JAM, that sounds pretty easy, hope it is, havn't seen the car yet so that will be interesting to see what numbers it does have.
Billycart, you could be right, maybe it never did have one, as my 69 mini K doesn't. Hope this is the case, it has some good bits on it and it is cheap. Will get some pics up on the weekend hopefully.
Steve.

yes, may not be a bad idea to check it on REVS (Register of Encumbered VehivleS) or your local equivalent to make sure it hasn't been "ghosted"

Gee for $1200 for a whole car it can't be that bad! The webber is worth half that! If it aint rusty... who cares?

Lillee doesn't have a "compliance plate" and she is 1969!

Ask for the VIN Chassis number from the last rego paper and get it checked? Who cares for $1200! I didn't check Lillee :?

Hey Doogie, I bet it has 7.5inch discs too   :P haha

Its only a 1100, i've spoken to the owner & he said the brakes need work, so i assume they are drums all round.

If it is indeed a `67 it would NOT have had a VIN (compliance) plate, only the BMC body ID plate.
No big loss if missing.
The number that was on it would be also stamped into the firewall next to the clutch MC, in BIG letters....
No number there, it's either a much later car- or it's shady...

I saw a shell recently with a body number stamped on the passenger side of the firewall. What would that be?

Maybe some had it there, but most roundnose have it where I said. Near clutch.

My car has a compliance plate rivetted above the clutch arm stating 1970 as the mfg. year + the usual (model, seats etc). Is this odd?
