When does it blow out the smoke. After you go down a hill and then put your foot down again. If so it has worn rings/bore and needs a rebuild if not then Not to sure what else it could be. |

Blue smoke = oil being burned. It can either get up past the rings & pistons if worn, or more commonly- down the valve guides. This shows mostly at the bottom of a hill, or after prolonged idling. Can be either worn valve stems & guides, or hardened valve stem seals(1275 ones- either Mini or Rover Metro don't seem to last long). If rings are stuffed/bores worn, it will usually blow lots of blue smoke under acceleration or load..... ![]() |

yup, I'll also offer another piece about the valve stem seals. If they're worn, its highly likely you'll get a good puff of blue smoke when you first start the engine, as a result of the oil running down the valves with the engine stopped. as soon as ya start it the oil gets burnt, and a wonderful cloud appears |

Mine blows a cloud when I blast off after sitting at the lights for a while, it's got brand new US made Viton seals on the intakes. I reckon the LCB is sucking it down the exhaust guides at idle (1200 rpm)- I don't seal the ex guides because they're bronze and could seize with no lube. |
