if it isn't rusted in, you kinda have to turn it sideways and drop it out on it's side. Won't just drop down in its normal position.
If it's rusted in.....BFH is the order of the day

Hey guys and gals, I am trying to replace my front suspension with new cones and hi-los. As you all know the front suspension consists of a metal cone connected to the rubber cone. I have managed to remove the metal cone (after some sawing and drilling) ... now how the hell do i remove the rubber cone? I cant get it out of the subframe ... its driving me insane ... can anyone help me? Lucas |

I had to take the top suspension arm off and out otherwise there wasn't room to get it out. 
If you mean it won't budge from the top of the subframe tower we used the threaded rod that made up part of our home made cone compressor and gave it bash with the hammer (it didn't need much) and the other end of the rod wasn't threaded so it didn't bugger up the threads

Nuh it aint seized ... moves around freely inside the subframe ... how do i get the top arm off? |

You have to undo the nuts on either side of the suspension arm and slide out the shaft that the suspension arm pivots on. The nuts can be a PITA to get off, you will also need to split the top ball joint from the hub so that you can take the arm out. I found I could get the drivers side arm out without spliting the ball joint but I think it would only work on that side, probably easier to split the ball joint if you have a ball joint splitter  (I didn't and I couldn't get it to come appart with a BFH)
PS: Careful if you use BFH method hit it from the side with some one levering the suspension arm and hub apart you don't want to damage the threads and don't try hitting it from the top (even with a nut on) as this will stuff the threads and you won't get the nut back on.  I know this from experience

Dont forget the nut on the back, in the wheel well. Once that is out put the nut on and gently tap with a rubber mallet. should slide right out if there is no weight on it. Cheers Aaron |

If I remmember rightly there is a plate type arrangement held to the subframe with two smaller nuts (only on one end to the shaft) ? you will need these out as well I think |

Hmmm I havent removed them ... ill do that when i got back to my car tommorrow fingers crossed |
