Post subject: | problems with webber ..running rich??? |
gday all. well ive goten over my last hurdle when the timming cover breather came away and went into the fan causing the fan to puncher my alloy radiator. all fixed now and $600 shorter as well. i serviced it just b4 it went to link and all was running good.but latley she is running a little ruff????and very ritch going buy how black the plugs are....now i was woundering what the two screws on top of the webber do????theres one on the inside of each barrle...not the rev adjuster as i know were this is but the other two????was told they mite have come loose or something but im not sure if they control the amount of fule that goes in??? if not what do they do anyway??? mite have to get her tuned asap if i cant find the problem as its quite hard to drive like this as shes going pop pop pop all the way down the street and she seems to be back firing a little too even when cruising?? plugs are new.....gaps is good....points are all new too....leads are all ok.... any idears would be welcome. many thanks.... |

Popping from the carb or the exhaust? popping from carb = too rich. Popping from Exhaust = Too lean. There are 2 idle mixture screws that you can use to adjust the idle mixture. After about 1/4 or more pedal it's all main jet. So if it is running rich on main jet then you need to change jets. Did you put a new kit through the carb? Take it to someone that can tune it for you or read a few books to check your setup and make a calculated guess on what jets you need to run. What is the setup for your car? |

On a Weber those 2 screws with the springs adjust idle mixture. They are fuel jets- screw in to make leaner idle mixture. I would screw them both right in, then out about 2 turns and try it. Any further adjustment, move them by the same amount. |

i havent changed anything so i dont understand why shes is doing this ????shes poping from exhaust not carbie.plugs were very black so im gusing this is a sign of running too ritch. will try adjusting the idel screws tomorow and see what she does.mite have to go to link and see what has happended on days off. car is 1293cc mild cam 2 inch exhaust webber on short manifold ported head etc...its never ran like this so im a tad concerned..... last time it was dynoed my webber results were as follows chokes = 34 sec venturi = 5 mains = 155 air = 175 emul? = f2 check ball = closed squirters = 50 idle = 45f9 n/seat = 20 im not sure what all of this means....but they did tell me who ever set it up did a good job as they couldnt get it to run any better. |

Check the float level and condition of needle valve & seat too- a high fuel level will make it idle rich. |

yeah, check float level first,,,adjust to the book,,,also check the air filter is not blocked/dirty/gungy The venturies should be 3.5 not 5,,,very common mistake tho popping out the exhaust can be simply a hole or leak in the exhaust system too idle mixture screws on top of carb are an adjustment for the "air/fuel" idle mix, they simply adjust the "amount" of emulsified air/fuel mix supplied by the idle jets,,, probly best to have link or someone with some tuning ability/knowlege to adjust things for you, if you don`t have much knowlege/experience with tuning then maybe you won`t get too far...also i wonder who set your NEW points & timng up,,,maybe they are not too spot on after all,,,have it all checked by a proffesional & it should go like a rocket & the only "Popping" will be the eyes of the guy you race off at the lights ![]() |
