Decided i need to be able to hear the passanger speak while i'm driving & not slowly go deaf so i'm looking at soundproofing options. I came across this while searching: (looks ok) http://newtoncomm.co.uk/cars/mini/produ ... =18&type=6 Whats the go with webbers & the firewall sound proofing can you put in front of the air filter? (if you cant theres not much point). After a quick forum search i found this: http://www.knoxautocarpets.com.au/sound_proofing.htm Good for the floors & Doors Putting something on the inside under the dash is not really an option, could you put some behind the speedo cowling? __ On a side note a couple of minis have been added to the family, my brother & dad have both picked up 850's I'lll post some pics. |

How much room have you got between your filters & firewall? You can glue some also under the bonnet which does seem to help, but not as much as getting some insulation behind the dash. Properly sealing all firewall penetrations and fitting a rubber seal to the back edge of the bonnet will also stop diffraction. I used to drive a similar setup to you with all the carpets stripped out, but then I couldn't really hear the webber over the 2" exhaust

I have put some of the Knox Auto Carpets custom made soundproofing felt on the floor of my LS and boy has it made a difference to the noise level. I have also put it in the firewall behind the speedo binnacle and in behind the heater as well. I also intend to put some of the stick on soundproofing inside the bonnet. I also put a good layer of the black paint/spray on soundproofing goo on the floor, inside and out. |

Stuff all room between firewall and filter it was cut to fit the webber. I was thinking add the soundproofing under the carpet/ Doors & have the other kit under the bonnet and cut some of the carpet for inside the cowling (Oval Dash)

in the clubby i have a weber box and it has underlay stuckto it on the inside then there is the wooden dash and it is still loud what ya want fast or quiet ??? cant have both

a guy i used to work with gave me some Dynamat that was left over from when he did up his car audio system... http://www.dynamat.com/ it seems to work fairly well. I think its fairly expensive but then you don't need much to cover that little hole through the dash anyway. I used to have some carpet underlay/sound deadener stuff as soundproofing but it was choking my ramflo so i had to get rid of it. btw Morrie I don't mean to be picky but weber has only 1 'b' Geoff |

You might also like to try something like this: 
This came about after being pinged for excess noise at 'quiet' (I think it was 75 or 80db) Phillip Island Sprint meeting. The EPA measure the sound level about 30 meters away from the track at the end of the main straight. After practice I was informed that I was above the noise level permitted and needed to fix it before going out again. The EPA guy was pretty good, he told me the noise was mainly induction, not exhaust, so I fabricated up a 3-sided cardboard cover from a VB carton similiar to the 'improved' model shown here. It did the job and kept me under the noise limit despite 180km/h, straight-cut gearbox , 7500 rpm and 2" exhaust with a hotdog and straight through muffler. The one shown here isn't pretty, it's made from the underbonnet material off a Magna clipped onto an alloy frame, but it works. |
