G'day guys.. im aiming to tidy up my mini a bit... and thought id r-cover these... as you can see there pretty untidy.. (they didnt look that untidy when they were in the car tho )





has anyone here tryed to recover these themselves? or has anyone got any ideas?

are they meant to be totally flat or are they slightly moulded/bent?

any ideas appreciated!

I think some it may also depend on ur heater - i cant remember what you've got.. but on my ram-flo one the tube for the screen passes between firewall and that card.. so its sorta.. moulded?! kinda!!

The best idea is not to use the same bases, because whatever the stuff is (papier mache??!!) it aint like normal cardboard and as you've probably found in getting them out they bend very easily. I would carefully strip the vinyl off and use the card for a template out of something more sturdy yet still flexible - what I dont know - but thats your job

Then just recover the vinyl - note that on my car the vinyl on the cards actually continues past the card and actually sticks on the a pillar, and then is covered by the trim strip that covers the door seam and door seal... ill post a pic sometime if i can be bothered

hi buddy i only completed this task a few weeks ogo on my mk1 yours are in good nick by the looks of it, so id make a template of these and go to local trimmers and ask them for some new board its peanuts in cost most places have it or will tell you where to get it, i then go home make a template of it on these, use a stanley knife remark the folds (dont cut right through) and fold them over its easy as piss, then take ur vinyl and before your glue peg each side onto the new carboard using house pegs clothes ones, make sure it fits neat, and pull tight to romove any wrinkles, now there perfect, remove one side at time, glue on edge the let set for say 10 min then do another side best to work oopisite side to pull against each other, while ones setting start the other side ie drivers side panel,

mate they are really easy and turn out mint, trust me it takes the best part of an hour to do but comes up great and the end result is a million dollars, this process also works for door pockets and door cards

I used new vinyl for my clubbies ones, I had tried glueing the old vinyl down and it didn't work so well, I was using a cheaper brand contact adhesive so that might have been why but using new vinyl it is easier to do a nice neat job. I use quickgrip or a recomended alternative now follow the directions on the tin, it works well

PS: if you need a lot of glue go to building supplies places it way cheaper than K-Mart or Mitre 10 etc

i use 3m spray glue in a tin, it works great, using this works fine with old trim too
