Post subject: | dash lights |
I've got this strange problem with my dash lights. I noticed it a few months ago then i think it went away as i haven't noticed it in a while (though i don't drive the mini at night all that much). Lately its happening again... what happens is that when i'm accelerating or coasting, the lights in all 3 guages in the binnacle are ok, but on decelerating they go very dim and kind of ****** and i can see a faint 'glow' in the high beam light. all my other lights work fine (headlights, tacho, interior light). Last time it was happening I thought it might've been the weber backfiring into the back of the binnacle and upsetting things, but now i've got this dynamat stuff covering the hole with only a couple of gaps where the cables come through so i don't think it would be that... any ideas what might be the cause?? TIA Geoff |

I've seen it on my clubby where the dim adjuster switch on the right under the dash can vibrate and adjust the light level..not sure whether you have one though.. |

My guess would have been the alternator is not charging properly, when you have your headlights on it is drawing more current so there is less left for the interior lights, it gets better when the revs are up because the alternator is providing more charge. my 2 cents ![]() |

All three of the above i am thinking. Pull the plugs off the dimmer and clens the contact surfaces. Pull the dash out and clean up the PCB and contacts on all the lights etc etc Put a multimeter across the selinoid and car body while running and check to see what charge is coming out of the alt. Should read 13-14v no more than 15v, otherwise the ole lucas electrics are gonna let all the smoke out.... Cheers Aaron |

![]() Check that the bulb holders are firmly in the sockets in the back of the speedo. Had a similar problem. One socket holder wasn't clipped in properly and made contact when accelerating and cruising. But under brakes the bulb holder moved forward enough to loose contact. Once you stopped bulb holder made contact again. (Spring in wiring) Regards RonR |
