makka came over to fill up my dash pot, fix idling speed, adjust timing breather valve is fine now, new rubber, new plunger the only thing he said to look at was dizzy cap (worn and slightly crusty points) and new rotor button. he said that the thing could be honda or petronix ignition right now the car runs fine, except when running, when stopped (eg traffic lights, parking), the engine sounds like its being revved up and down, every 3seconds, speeds up, slows down etc. when accelerating its pretty normal, has a constant revving sound can the car make it to eastern creek tomorrow in your opinion, or will i be better off driving my cousins 'ahem' camry. |

There is air getting into the carb from somewhere other than normal. Make sure that makka has tightened the dosh pot srew up and also has put the Airfilter assembly on correctly. If he has missed outting the gasket on right, then your car will do exactly what you described. |

thanks theres a hole on top of the rocker cover next to the filler cap (cut n paste) http://www.angelfire.com/mech/ducho/engine_bay.JPG the blue tube connects to the air filter housing. when you pull this off, there is ALOT of suction through the cover that wasnt there before, you can even hear the swish. when you plug this hole with your finger, NO change happens to the rev, no difference in sound. |

Thats an engine breather it should be connected. I am talking about the Air filter, the black circle thing and the dash pot on the carb. Cheack they are tight and that nothing is lose. |

That hole at the top of the rocker cover does exactly the same thing as the one to which that Smiths valve is connected. Dont worry about it. What he means is that the air supply to your carb is inconsitent, so your mixture changes slightly and your revs jump. |

today the car made it to eastern creek and back, aaron and some other guys (sorry i didnt get your name: someone who had a girl in pink on his shoulders - looks like Mike Fly without a beard) took a look and said: 1. when you get a car, change the dizzy cap and rotor button 2. make sure your gasket is on right 3. dont put 20/50 oil in the dash pot, try sewing machine oil 4. brush your teeth with sunscreen and recycle all your newspapers otherwise, air is somehow getting into your carby (thus the un-constant revving) aw gee thanks guys |

Also make sure the carby and manifold sit tightly on the engine - you might have a leak from there. |

With yer fuel injected charade IwannaMini, its quite possible that the Idle-Air mixture valve/screw is sticking. the V6 commodores were notorious for it. no worries while you were driving, but at idle the RPM would be surging up and down. I know the one in teh commodores was sorta like a worm drive. if it gummed up it had to be a fair way off ideal for it to move properly, which made them overcorrect causing the surge effect. Quick check for leakage around yer manifold, and carby mounts: 1. Start your car and let it idle. 2. Grab a can of hairspray, Aerostart, or the good ole Start Ya Bastard. 3. Spray it liberally where the manifold joins the head, and where the carby bolts onto the manifold, and the butterfly shaft. If the rev's pick up, then it means ya have air leakage from one of those points. |
