Has anyone purchased a starter for these Guys http://www.castleauto.com.au/starters.htm

I am wanting to get one or should I be better doing the gemi conversion.

Look good and would be great, but 350 dollars might stop a few people though. On the other hand I bet they last forever and no more cranking problems. A Gemini starter would be half that if it were bought and reconditioned, but it is still cheaper. Now I had better go and consult the piggy bank, thanks for all your help, more bloody money to spend.

I have adapted a Toyota Corona (ST41?) gear reduction starter for my mini, used a std Lucas starter front mounting plate, had the centre turned out of it (75mm I think), had the nose on the Toyota starter turned to suit (with sufficient engagement distance for the flywheel) and then had the 2 bits welded together. Works a treat, spins up the engine mighty fine.

Heritage MG have a pre-engaged one designed for our early Minis. $165 I think. Josh has one, spins it like a top.

Rover `Verto clutch' ones won't fit ours- the ring gear on flywheel is a different size.

yes, that was where I got the idea from. Quite easy to do and plenty of Jap starters to choose from. One tip, when you're searching for a donor starter, pick one with as long a nose as you can find. There are differences. The one I did engages a flywheel with 1/2"ring gear fine but bumps out sometimes with 3/8" ring gear.

I'd never do it to mine, but just saying.

Mine Arrived today It is a lot smaller and Will be on Tomorrow morning.
