Post subject: | Quick Urgent need your help Granny is sick :(.... |
Hello everyone, Was wondering if someone can please give me some advice as Granny is not well and I am hoping she can be fixed for Gannons tommorow.... I went out to start her today and basically she sounds really sick.. Like as if she is not running on all cylinders ![]() Basically all I have done this past month is driven her in and out of the garage and thats it.. Apart from the other day when I washed the engine down.. But after doing this she was running fine.. But today when I go to take her out of the garage shes not running properly.. Even with the choke all the way out she wont idle properly and when I press the accelerator she has no power and seems like she is missing... Anyone know what could be wrong and how do I fix her? Any help will be greatly appreciated and I am hoping its nothing serious... Thanks.. |

If you have washed the engine in the last few days and have not driven the car very far, could be condensation in the dizzy cap. Spray the inside of the cap with WD40 then try starting Granny again. |

from washing the engine down, maybe there is still some moisture in the distributor cap? take it all off, little WD and try that. check none of the leads have come off in the wash, just all the simples really. dont mean to sound patronising, im sure you would have anyway |

Yeah if she hasn't been driven for a while, it probably is missing on one of the cylinders, taking her for a bit of a drive might fix it anyway. Other than that check the plugs, dizzy cap (condensation maybe? if its cracked), leads, something is probably just got water in it. Once again driving it might just fix it anyway. |

Put it out in the sun with the bonnet up so that the engine can catch the rays....unclip the dissy cap and lay over so it cattches the sun as well....bake in a moderate oven for 1-2 hours....reassemble and try it again....try that before you go crazy with WD-40 ![]() |

I bet the plugs are wet from fuel, all the choking and cold starting/stopping.. Pull each plug cap off plug about 1/4", this will increase coil output voltage and it might fire the dodgy one. If it does, then thrash it down the street a bit. Push plug caps back on. Or, just throw another set of plugs in. ![]() |

Just a related comment....when you were hosing and degreasing under the bonett ...did you plastic bag the dissy cover and the carbie plus air filter (if fitted) ![]() ![]() Doing this can save a lot of heartache later.... ![]() |

OK thanks everyone she is running perfectly again ![]() All I did was took off the plug leads to see if there was any water still in there and then took her for a drive... After a little while she came good so I took her along the M4 to give her a good run... I also saw a couple of other Minis while I was out driving around.. But they were parked.. One was at St Marys Bridgestone tyre service near the Car Lovers car wash place and another was on on Banks Drive in St Clair... BTW for those of you who are interested I didnt use a hose to wash the engine down. I used one of the engine cleaning thingos that you fill up with water and attach it to an air compressor.. I was extra careful not to go anywhere near the carby and distributor when I used this.. Worked a treat too I might add ![]() Im off to put the front bumper back on Granny now and do some final cleaning ![]() Anyway thanks for all your help and hope to see you tommorow at Gannons... |
