Post subject:  ptfe tape on my sump plug

I had to retap my sump plug to a lager size & have fitted two(because of bolt shape) new copper washers, But it still leaked. This time I have treated the copper washers with permatex( nonhardening) & used PTFE (plumbers tape) on the thread. What is everones opinoin of this tape in this aplication? Being PTFE heat shoudn't worry it. But is it oil proof?
What do yu recon??
Paul.

PS I have the tap if anyone in CBR strips their sump plug?

Hrmm.. I wasn't aware that PTFE (that's Teflon for all you folks playing at home) was plumber's tape - it has until recently been a very popular choice for aircraft wiring insulation because it's an excellent insulator.. Now they use a mix of hybrds, EthyleneTetraFluoroEthylene or ETFE and Teflon Kapton-TEflon (TKT)..

The crux of the story is I dont know whether itll work for your sump plug :D

ive been told by a very trusty man that plumbers tapes can be used for anything, from oil to fuel, coolant

with my own experiences, once you wrap it on, it can be shredded up by the turning action and little threads can dislodge into your sump. that is if you put too much.

Well its all on/in now so we'll see! I'll post results.
Too late for a helicoil Ive already taped the new thread & made a new plug not to mention spending $25 on the tap. ( not really concerned about original plug)

High temp silicone might be a good alternative if I could get both surfaces absolutly CLEAN but oil continually seeps from the block & I'm too impatient to leave it overnight to drain.
I think It'll work provided the tape is not effected by oil & if the teflon in the Missus fry pan can stand olive oil @ over 100deg then I should be OK with good old castrol @ 80deg(ish)
