Hey guys, quick question. Mini jumps out of gear when you brake hard. Goes from second to neutral? |

Worn out gearbox. Not braking, engine braking. Accelerate hard in second, then just back right off - leave the brake pedal alone. (NOT in traffic). Try it in the other gears also, but second usually gets the most use. Sounds like it's nearly rebuild time

Your Minis or Damos? Happened on my original motor which was well broken. The trick is to hold the shifter when decelerating in second. Just to be sure if it is one of yours (from memory they are all rod change?) you should check the actual rod change mechanism. The steady bar bush (the shifter steady bar not the engine steady bar) car wear very badly meaning engine movement causes the shifter to move round - Chris' car pops out of first for this reason. <edit> Oh and if its the white car, stop complaining!!! Be happy to get second at all

Your novelty gear knob is obviously too heavy and it's own weight is dragging it forward because your brakes are too good.

Yeah on that note try removing the rubber gearbox boot they tend to put pressure on the shifter

You better hope you don't end up like me and my shitter Leyland... Used to fall out of 3rd occasionally when decellerating, then it would not like going into 3rd under load, then it just didn't like going into 3rd at any kind of driving- you had to have two or three goes at it. Even then it would *just* go into gear. Now i have no 3rd at all  Do you know how hard it is to drive a stuffed 998 under 3000 rpm (coz then it blows too much smoke) then shift from 2nd to 4th? It drops down to about 1200 rpm, and damn its slow...
Makes it real hard to keep up with peak hour traffic with the trucks

mine does the same thing, i have a A+ gearbox. i found that aslong as you have aleast some preasure on the accel it wont jump out of gear |

ive never incounted such a problem, but others. But i have a rebuilt/reco A+1100 and a new gearbox...with a few other mods as well |
