I like coming down the Princes H/Way via Cann River and through Lakes Entrance as there isn't as much trucks on the road, unlike the Hume and the roads are all good. Roughly about the same distance and time both ways but the Princes H/Way is more scenic. Others might say different. |

Roughly about the same distance and time both ways but the Princes H/Way is more scenic. Others might say different. Takes longer that way, but definitely recommended if you have the time and don't mind slowing down for every little town. ![]() |

I've never really timed it, but you'd need to allow two days minimum if you want to look around. Recommended places to stay are Narooma or Orbost on the way. We usually take three days to travel that way, as opposed to the boring 11-12 hour trip on the Hume Hwy. Cheers, |

I visited the Upper Hunter Valley last December and went up via Forbes/ Dubbo then over to Scone and that took 14hrs but on the way back, went via Bathurts/Can'tburra/Cann River and it took 12hrs (with an hour's stop at Mt Panorama) but then add an extra 2hrs to Melbourne from Morwell... |

take a bit of extra time and come down via the coast, you could even take an inland detour and go through some of the mountains inland of the border, but on the coast side of the great diviide. Get a decent detailed map and plan out something scenic if you shoot back via the hume, you'll come within 1km of my house and you can stop over if you like remember, the best roads are the ones least travelled ![]() |
