HI all,

Looking for some helpfull hints on the removal of this bracket. I can't for the life of me figure out how the "bolt" that holds the column in comes out? There's no-where to put a spanner end onto?? Do I just knock it out with a hammer and pin or something?

if you looks under the dash there are 3 bolts ? that hold it on to the pedal box undo them and the steering colum will come out

or you can grind it of or useng a centre punch and hammer to turn it it tried the centre punch and hammer got the shits and used a die grinder

Grind or file 2 flats on it, then use a shifter or O/E spanner to hold it.

Sorry to hi-jack but I am having the same problem (sort of) I have been able to get the mounting bracket off but I can't remove the column
I have loosened the bolt at the bottom of the steering column but no matter how much I try I can't get it off.

(I didn't need the column so I went down makka's path and chopped it off with the grinder)

I like the sound of that. Is it "threaded"? Once I take it out can I put it back in. Reason I ask is that I've bought a drop bracket and want to know how to re-fit. Will I need this "bolt" to fit the drop bracket or not.

Hope I'm making sense.

Yes it is threaded, and yes you can re-use it if you dont damage it with your filing/grinding.
So filing would be the safe bet.

Just fit a new nut....

Mini_van, that bolt needs to come right out, it sits in a groove in the pinion shaft.

You'll also need to loosen the nuts on the U-clamps for the steering rack to allow it to rotate when you fit and tighten your drop bracket. Then tighten the nuts back up. They are located under the carpet in the driver's and passenger's footwells.
