mate of mine in the US has plugs with a 4 point central electrode in his BMW Z3, reckons they are twice as good as twin point ones

a mate of mine had bosch quadfires (?) in his lada, claimed that they were worth every penny. (his lada niva could do 4 wheel burn outs on bitumen!) I was planning to get a set when I finally find a car! |

I was planning to get a set when I finally find a car! Bosch W 7DTC ones have 3 electrodes but you only really get one spark, as it jumps to the closest one.  As the electrodes take turns (as they wear) the plugs last longer. They were designed for VWs and are supposedly good for 60,000 miles..
You don't need to gap them, either. No I haven't tried them, yet!

I might be wrong about the brand but they were the ones with 4 electrodes, cost about $20 each. He blew gearboxes like crazy but never replaced a plug |

Bosh 4's sounds right as I am running them at the moment and yes I had a little better go and it ran smoother but the USP are suppose to through a plasm arc not a spark likt normal ones. Also check out this site it show you in a video on how that should work http://www.robertstanley.biz/firestorm.htm These ones are not avaliable yet. |

My last experiences with multi-electrode plugs were not happy ones. They were Golden Lodge 2HL, as used in Alfas. In the Fiat 124S they lasted a mere 1000 miles then just would not fire properly. Impossible to clean them, very little room inside.....

NGK used to make a similar style plug, called a delta type electrode or similar. They were used in some BMW engines. NGK don't make them anymore. If they were as good as claimed NGK would still be making them. BMW changed to the twin electrode type. I tried the 4 electrode type in a BMW 318iS but after 20K kms they started to miss so I went back to the 2 electrode type.For $18 it doesn't seem worth it. Everytime petrol prices skyrocket these type of devices gain a new lease of life. Won't be long before we see the water into petrol pills and all manner of inlet tract devices supposedly designed to improve the mix of air and fuel. Regards RonR |
