Post subject:  Mag Wheel help please..

Hello everyone,
Well I have spent all day today at the wreckers pulling out the rear rubber cones in a Mini today.. The right hand one came out after about ten minutes but the left hand one took three hours to get out even with some help from a nice gentleman there :(..

But thats another story... And while I was there I managed to pick up a set of mag wheels off a guy who asked me if I had a Mini and if I was interested in buying a set of mag wheels he had for sale. I told him I didnt have alot of money but I might be interested depending on what they were and how much he was asking.

Anyway not to drag this out any further even though it was quite funny how the price came about for them. He ended up selling them to me very cheaply and even though I really could not afford them they were too cheap to let go I thought.

So now that I have them I was wondering if anyone has some advice as to how to remove the steel washers that seem to be stuck in the holes where the wheel nuts go?

Im not to sure if I will even use these wheels yet.. But either way I would still like to know how do I get these steel washers out.

So any advice will be greatly appreciated as always..

Here is a picture of the washers I am talking about..

Thanks..

Well that's all well and good but what do the wheels look like?

And to answer your question you could probably get away with using a pair of vice grips and some WD40 to pull them out but they are supposed to be there so when you have the wheel nut in they dont cut up the steel because they need a washer but if you are only taking them out to clean them make sure you put them back in

Looks like you have used plenty of WD 40...
try from the back with a Punch and a hammer and go around the edge

OK thanks Pat and Jim will give your ideas a go tommorow and see how I go...

As for how they look Pat here is a photo of one of them but they are basically all the same and the tyres have heaps of tread still on them..

They look like inserts..I think they're meant to be there when you screw the nut on..could be wrong though

They are washers that sit flush with the edge. They stop the steel wheel nuts from chewing out the alloy wheel same as contessas.
Should be able to pick them up at just about any wheel place as they are performance wheels.

P.S. If you are going to use them paint strip them then etch prime them the re-paint, otherwise the paint will just flake off again.
Oh and just look in your book of stupid things we do for a how to on polishing those rims :D

Turn the rim so the rim face is pointing towards the ground, then knock them out using a pointed screw driver & a hammer, should take a few taps to get each out, if you can't get them out easily, i can do them for you, but how close are you to Beverly Hills????
