I never intended to go back to bare metal becuase of the sheer work involved and my lack of time lately....combined they would prevent my mini being finished in the next decade at this rate. But today upon working on the doors, and the rest of it, I noticed there is in the order of 5 or 6 coats underneath the top coat. Is it best to go backs to bare metal in this situation? |

IMHO, if you don't go back to bare metal, you are wasting your time and will regret not doing it further down the line. With that amount of paint, who knows what is under it. You might be carrying 4kg of bog. |

More work in the short run to take it back to bare metal but you'll save a hell of a lot of time an tears in the long run if you do it now. I know when it comes to mine I'll be doing a bare metal respray though because of laziness I'll just get it dipped or bead blasted ![]() |

I'm going to either bare metal mine, or get another shell to bare metal for my running gear when I get into my new house. I'm just worried that the bog and fibreglass in my car is structural!!! |

5 or 6 layers? No question at all, time to get out the wet'n dry. Hard yakka but it will pay off. Just keep telling yourself that when you are about 5 hours in to the job! ![]() |
