Betty msged me complaining about spongey brake pedal and since she recently had a kit through the master cylinder it could only really be one thing, leaky wheel cylinders. So she came over and we bleed the brakes, huge air bubbles ![]() She only made it up the road when the she had to walk back to my place to tell me that there was no brake pedal at all. It turns out the C clip fell out of the brake pedal and the gudgeon pin dropped straight out of the pivots and the pedal was totally free! ![]() Thank goodness she was only up my road, I'd hate to think what would have happened if this happened on the freeway! ![]() ![]() Anyway, alot of swearing later, we fixed the brake and clutch to ensure this would not happen again. Things were fine up until today for her... the pin simply wore and became loose and suddenly without notice, pop, it came off. My question to all of you lot is, when was the last time you checked under there??? ![]() ![]() |

Had it happen to me, but thankfully it was the clutch. Good trick is to ditch the C clip and replace with a Bobbby pin. Seriously. there easier to get it and easier to take out. And won't come undone. Cheers Aaron |

You are right. I replaced it with a heavy duty split pin, was a bitch to get in, and hopefully for betty's sake will be a bitch to get out! |

Split pins were standard fitment. Yes they are harder to get out. Just don't bend the ends too far, they don't need it and it only makes removal even harder.. ![]() |

Go with new cotter pins,(about a whole dollar each) and some 'r' clips. The new pins will give you more leverage to the masters, and make it easier to adjust the brake/clutch, as everything is now doing as it is supposed to. And 'r' clips are so much easier than bloody split pins. |

Split pins seem the logical thing to use... The problem was that when the brake pedal actuated, on fluke occasions it would turn the gudgeon pin around so that the open part of the clip would be facing straight down. This then hits the bottom of the pedal box at full non-actuation which slowly, but surely pushes the R pin or cotter pin out of the hole! I saw this first hand with Betty's clutch pedal. Hence I replaced both with split pins... For now on I will use split pins down there... sure it's hard to do but it's Much better than the R or Cotter pins! Even safety pins are a better idea... |
