Post subject:  pics of cooper s steelies with 165 tyres

Hi

I'm after a favour. I'm about to put the mini back on the road (WOOHOO) and at the moment I'm running on 4.5" cooper s steel wheels, with falken 145 tyres.

I want to get some Yoko A008s or AO32Rs, which are 165.

I don't have flares and will never put them on this mini.

So I need to get some pics of these tyres on these rims on someone's car, with Cooper S discs. That way I can make a decision on wether to buy them or not. (the tyre places here don't stock them so I have to pay for em before I can try them. An expensive experiment if they don't fit.)

Please help!!

Matt

Can't help with pics, but when I replaced tyres on my car I wanted to go 165s. I borrowed a set from a friend and put them on to see how well they'd fit under the guard.

A bog stock Cooper S without flares and the tyres came enough outside the front guards that I would not get past a rego check.

Think about this before you do anything. Cooepr S rims, disc brakes and 165 tyres will be outside the guards. Chances are you will get fined without flares.

Thanks.

I've just had a chat with Ken from Mini Automotive who said that with negative camber, they are 'touch and go' with the legality. So I'll have to invest in some negative camber arms etc first (damn shame  ) and then see what next.

Cheers

They'll scrub the shock absorbers on the front as well when turning sharply. No biggy really, just rubs the paint off, nothing else.

Negative camber bottom arms would only make this worse though. I've got the same setup minus the bottom arms on my S.

Thanks Mick,

Any problems at the rear? My mini is hydro so there are helper springs, which are skinnier than shocks at the rear. I do have shocks on the front though.

Nah, no problems at all on the rear if you have S/GT drums. It's like it was made for it there. I have dampers on the front to assist the hydro on my car, so it rubs on that.

On another car I put a spacer plate on the front to stop the rubbing, but I had flares so it wouldn't help in your situation.

Thanks Mick.

I'll just see if they fit once i get the negative camber set. I might have to borrow a freinds set to ply swapsies. Nothing like trying them on to be sure. Now to find a friend who has S wheels & 165s locally....

Cheers,
Matt
