I know this has been on a couple of times before, but I was hoping that someone has done something similar. I am looking into getting a set of rims sent over. Anyone have any idea of the costs involved? They would be 10 inch. Cheers |

Shipping is just part of the cost, you also cop +10% duty +10% GST on top of that. Combined with freight, that cheap set of rims from the UK is no longer so cheap. Do yourself a favour and call Tony at MiniSport in SA. www.minisport.com.au. He is and Australian www.MiniSpares.com distributor and can get anything they have in within 2-3 weeks if he doesn't already have it in stock. Just give him the part number from the MiniSpares website. I have purchased ~$5K or so worth of stuff from him over the past 6 months and have never had any issues. Tony is extrememly helpful, fast, efficient and really looks after you. |

It might work out alright if you order them one at a time, just do the math and go with whats cheaper Don't spend over $250 at one time then you'll be hit with duty & gst. |

checkout parcels2go.co.uk -it'll cost you 60 odd pound for up to 16kg parcel (from memory). but GST and duty will be applied if sent by courier. Alternatively try Karkraft -who are in Sydney and are the biggest and usualy cheapest Australian importer. |

That's bullshit. All the freight express companies will charge GST. Anything sent by Post unse a $1000 will get in without additional duties. I will never use any other method than post for this reason. I have never been charged duty except the last time I used DHL for an item costing $650 and it cost me fees to process plus GST. If they want to send it anything other than post tell them to stick it up....well you know where. |

Yup, spot on Chris. Unlike the american mail market which has been stitched up by the courier companies (Absolutely ridiculous prices), the British post can be extremely cheap and very fast. If you order stuff and specify NORMAL British post, you will probably get your parcel in six to ten days incl. w/ends. Don't fall into the courier trap, they're a rip off, and then are more likely to hit you with ridiculous charges. The courier companies are trying to repeat the american situation over here as well. Hooray for Oz Post! Don't specify Air Mail either (Extra cost). It will if it's reasonably sized go into a mail bag on a plane with the rest of the mail anyway. Mick |

In theory, yes you are allowed $1,000 via post without charges. But my spy in Customs says they do have a long hard look at anything with value above $400 or so..... And, if you're splitting the shipment to reduce its $ value, he advises send them a couple of weeks apart.....

Has that upper limit of 100 dollars been recently changed? I remember getting stung for only a 250 dollar order a while back. I got hit with 30 percent and had to argue component by component for a reduction in tax. And THAT was the one time a courier company got hold of a package I ordered instead of normal post. It cost 75 dollars for a package that usually only cost 20, AND the &*$%wits took four weeks to get it to me. |
