was just woundering if original lucas 35 amp fuses are a rare thing??? i just found two of them in my garage as i forgot i had my wiring loom all replaced and the electriction gave them back to me as he said maybe someone out there wants them?? there not blown iether... if there in demand or someone out there thinks they want them ill post them up on the for sale section...maybe someone has an original mini and wants original fuses too. cheers.... minifreak1 |

but are they lucas items???the ones i have, have a papper piece in them saying lucas i know you can buy fuse anywere but diddnt think you could get lucas fuses from dick smith or tandy?? |

of course you can't get lucas fuses, but who would put 30-40 year old fuses in there car, even if it was for concours! Cheers Aaron |

No, I think it's cool! I just never thought of going searching for them though. Everyone usually has something on their car they are proud of out of proportion to the valus of the rest of the car. Mine is a couple of original service stickers under the bonnet, and some NOS oil cooler hoses with the Smiths logos on them. I've got one of those fuses in my fuse holder as well, not by design though, it's just there. The fusable link inside is wrapped with a little piece of paper stating lucas and the rating right? You can use them quite reliably though, fuses don't age really unless they are corroded. |

I found the original "Passport to Pleasure" or whatever it was called, sort of a service schedule thing, in my 1969 850 when I bought it recently. I guess it would be rare to have unblown Lucas fuses. Maybe make them into a talisman to wear and ward off the Prince of Darkness? |

of course they are rare, they are lucas! they have all blown!!!
i reckon that would be a cool little thing to have in a concours car. but realistically fuses are fuses. i like the talisman idea the best |

Yeah, my LS still has all four of its Lucas fuses... I think its pretty cool. 
Along with my original keys, Emissions Control booklet (even if the under bonnet bits are long gone and it isn't really relavent to a Weber), the Owners Handbook, and the Scheduled Service book. All are filled out to 90,000 Kms, which is when i bought the car. I daren't write in it, though.

A bit of info about Lucas fuses. The 35 Amp rating is the current at which they will blow instantaneously. The continuous rating is about 17 Amps. (If I remember correctly) Fuses can be rated in many different ways. The continuous rating, the instantaneous rating, or so many amps for a particular time. eg 25 Amps for 10 Minutes. Lucas fuses use the instantaneous rating. If you go down to Dick Smiths and buy 35 Amp fuses this is most likely the continuous rating. If you put them in your Mini and you have a wiring problem, short etc you will probably burn out the wiring before the fuse blows as it may take several minutes for the fuse to blow. Most Mini wiring is not designed to carry 35 Amps. If you can't find Lucas fuses use fuses with a continuous rating of around 15 Amps. Also remember Mini light circuits are not fused nor is the ignition. Ignition ON circuits are but not the ignition coil circuit. At least on most OZ built Minis.
