Post subject: | sloppy remote control shaft |
the remote control shaft on the yellow beasts remote box is quite sloppy ... the box was working well and felt quite positive when it was in, but when out this shaft seems excessively sloppy..is there a bush that slogs out at the top where the shaft comes out of the diff casing. it may feel worse because the remote housing is disconected, but it seems way to sloppy.. anyone experienced this?? |

Yes there are 2 bushes (1/2" bore) in the diff housing, with a grease nipple in between that defies most efforts to reach (when installed).. Easiest way I know to get them out is run a 9/16" UNF tap into them, then stick a 1/2" rod in there and thump it with a BFH. Repeat for other end.. Also measure the shaft that goes thru them- if badly worn go find another. I think new are NLA now. ![]() |

Diff housing looks like a standard remote type, I can't really see what's under it. But the bellcrank looks strange from that pic... |

the hole on the top of where the remote unit attaches is usually has a tin cover rivited over it on remoteboxes... this is open and has a chunky lever end that flaps up through it.. gear stick of some sort is supposed to go up the hole at the end.. sorry best extra pic i took ![]() |

A connection onto there thru the top slot will only give shift movement in the fore & aft direction. To move across the gate the shift shaft up thru the diff housing needs to be rotated. ![]() BTW many remotes never had a tin plate over the top. They added it later to stop spare parts and crap falling in. ![]() |

Found in early 70's Mokes and Clubman Vans, sorry don't know the years, presumably just prior to rod change boxes coming in. |
